Emergency Connectivity Fund Internet Service

Link to Press Release

What is this?

The Pottsboro Library and TekWav are pleased to announce a partnership to bring internet service to the patrons of the library through the Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) program.

ECF has made $7.17 billion available to be used to purchase laptops, tablets, Wi-Fi hotspots, modems, routers, and broadband connections for use by students, school staff, and library patrons in need. The funding also can be used to support off-campus learning, such as homework and virtual learning.

Pottsboro Library plans to use these funds to provide connectivity to library patrons through the partnership with TekWav.

Where did this come from?

ECF is a program being administered by Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC), authorized by the American Rescue Plan of 2021. It reimburses eligible remote learning expenses for K-12 schools and public libraries.

The ECF will be administered by the Universal Administrative Company (USAC), leveraging much of the same infrastructure currently used to manage the E-rate funding program for schools and libraries.

Am I eligible?

The ECF program is intended for library patrons who do not otherwise have access to equipment or services sufficient to meet the patrons’ educational needs. If you are a patron of the Pottsboro Library and find yourself needing access, you can sign up today!

Am I restricted on what I can and cannot do while connected?

This service must be used primarily for educational purposes. TekWav reserves the right to comply with the Children’s Internet Protection ACT (CIPA) and may restrict what can and cannot be accessed on the Internet.

How can I sign up?

The Pottsboro Library and TekWav have decided to focus on providing internet access to the residents of Pottsboro who are patrons of the Pottsboro Library. Before the end of 2023 Q4, TekWav intends to extend the geographic coverage to other areas of Grayson County.

Additionally, a monthly credit of $75 will be applied to cover the cost of the Essential Plan internet service.

How long will this last?

Internet service through the ECF program will be available for up to 500 connections and up to August 2024.

Prior to the program ending, TekWav will send out an email with some options to continue internet service.
